How do I know if I have moles in my yard, flower beds or landscaping?

If you have large mounds of dirt or (dirt volcanoes) in your yard or landscaping and raised tunnels, runways or veins (like those pictured above) and on our home page, then you have moles.

If left alone or unchecked, how much damage can moles cause?

  • Moles can cause a tremendous amount of damage to your lawn, garden & property resulting in $ Hundreds if not $ Thousands of dollars in damage. Property value can decrease 5%-10% due to mole problems.
  • You could wake up in the morning and find your whole front lawn has become a mole feeding lot, with dirt & grass uprooted & thrown around.
  • Moles are “Root Destroyers”. In an effort to find food, moles will hurt & destroy vegetation by uprooting it.
  • Moles destroy sprinkler systems by uprooting sprinkler heads and warping underground water lines.
  • Mole activity may break cables, which can affect phone or other utilities you receive through ground lines.
  • In addition to the visible damage, moles can also undermine & damage walkways and drive ways. This damage may not be visible for years to come.

How many moles do I have?

Although we have over 12 years of successful experience trapping moles, we still can’t give you a definitive answer to that question. Since this is Mother Nature we are dealing with, we have found that she can be fairly unpredictable at times. It’s safe to assume that you have at least 1 mole that is causing the damage and destruction to your property. Last year, 70% of our customers had 2.8 moles. So, a good rule of thumb is 2-3 moles per yard. This can vary based upon the size of your property. The larger the property, the more moles you could have.

Do I need to be home when you service my property?

No, you do not need to be home. Our technicians just need to gain access to the area to be treated/serviced. Any special information such as gate codes, dogs in yard, etc., can be provided to us at the time we schedule your service.

Is your trapping service safe for the environment?

Absolutely yes! In fact, we pride ourselves on the fact that we “Do Not” use poisons or pesticides which can be harmful to pets, children and can leach into ground water, thus causing contamination.

How do I know that you have actually caught any moles?

Once we catch a mole, we bury it at the same spot the trap was set. We mark the spot with a small flag. You are then welcome to dig up the mole if you so choose in order to verify. It makes great fertilizer and will decompose within several weeks.

Some mole trapping services charge by the trip vs. those that charge by the mole. Which option should I choose?

Mole Wizard™ prides itself on being the leader in this industry. Through the use of our perfected & proprietary Mole Gard™ technology, we are able to trap your moles the quickest, usually within 5-7 days. We may however on some occasions, leave certain traps in place for 2.5 to 3 weeks, to ensure no further activity. However, you only pay Mole Wizard™ for our set up fee and the number of moles we catch. Other services, (that charge by the trip) may state that they need to continue to service your property for a minimum of 3-5 weeks. The reason for this, is the more trips they make, the more they get to charge you, regardless of whether they catch any moles. Which service would you rather use?

What can I do to keep moles out of my yard?

There is no guaranteed method for preventing moles. Prevention methods are generally not very practical & never fully protect your lawn. One common practice for mole control used by “pest control services”, is food reduction by way of insecticide. However, the mole may still be in your lawn, feeding on worms or insects not affected by the insecticide. Additionally, using insecticides to eliminate grubs & worms can be costly and reduce beneficial insects in your lawn.

Why do I have moles and my neighbors don't?

Moles are wild and unpredictable creatures. They don’t discriminate based upon boundary lines. Some properties may have more abundant food sources such as worms and grubs. Also, properties that are surrounded by wooded areas tend to attract more moles. Once again, Mother Nature has a lot to do with this.

Do poisons work in killing moles?

No. Poisoned baits are known to give inconsistent & generally poor results. Since moles are insectivores and normally “do not” consume grain, toxic grain based baits are seldom effective. Additionally, experts agree that repeat applications ranging from 4-6 weeks are required to achieve any kind of results. Bottom line is that baits are a more costly, time consuming and ineffective approach to mole control.

Will moles return to my property?

Yes they can return, but certainly not the ones we have trapped, since those have been killed. Other mole “friends” or “relatives” may certainly move in, sensing the area is vacant. That is why Mole Wizard™ gives our customers a 110 day limited warranty. (Please refer to our pricing page for more information). We have found that 53% of our customers are return customers, because new moles have moved in.
